It’s a sales message written by ChatGPT.😱
In a way, email marketing is like Water Torture — like a few drops of water? No big deal. However, when it drips and drips (etc), it becomes fiercely annoying and can start to break you down. And that’s when the message is written by a human. The message will have idiosyncrasies. When the human doing the marketing offloads that exercise to ChatGPT, the sameness is exacerbated.
That’s not just annoying.
I don’t mind people using ChatGPT, even for writing. However, I do mind when people inflict their laziness on me. In my opinion, using ChatGPT output as your own writing wholesale is pretty much like playing the demo song on an electric piano and saying you wrote it. Firstly, nooooo you didn’t. Secondly, that song kinda sucks, anyway.
Meanwhile, I have read much more than I care to of bad copywriting lately, often by people who insist they’re good copywriters. And the interesting thing is that the evidence they offer is how much money they made. If people are easily deceived, am I excellent at deception for deceiving them??? Use your fucking brain! Similarly, if you’re selling …what’s the common example? Snowcones on the beach? I forget… something like that. If you’re selling something highly in demand, that does not make you an excellent copywriter. It makes me kinda sad to feel the need to point this out — it’s not particularly insighful.
I believe sales is extremely important. Pick a business, any business: it’s got bills to pay. How does it get money? Sales. You go to a job interview: how do you get the job? “Sell” yourself. You need to convince someone of something. How do you do it? “Sales.” We use the language of sales and selling, even outside the domain of business, because sales is an essential role in the modern world. Yet, amid this ubiquitous sales paradigm, people are commonly avoiding doing any actual selling. And part of me sympathizes — they think they have a better solution to the arduous 🙄 work of writing copy. However, the selling part requires much more than sending a few paragraphs ChatGPT generated then seeing yourself as an excellent seller and software automator. 🙄🙄🙄
