Aligning Incentives
Something that gets on my nerves _and_ seems unnecessary & unhelpful is people acting against their own interests.
I know a guy, and early in the year, he was lamenting to me that children should be prohibited by law from getting sex-reassignment surgery, to which I say /shrug. Firstly, I have zero children so like not my problem. Secondly, didn’t you just explain to me that you’re a libertarian? Shouldn’t the market decide?
This type of thing chaps my ass (is that expression related to horseback-riding?) cuz there is really important stuff happening. Don’t get me wrong, I fully believe it’s a BFD for a person who feels his/her biological gender doesn’t match what’s inside, but that’s definitely not going to outlive the individual. Meanwhile, the ability for Americans to have electricity and running water are _way_ more precarious. Our lives are heavily dependent on electricity, and people act as if it’s always been here and is promised.
Similarly, there is a veritable dearth of understanding related to: math, computers, health and fitness, and so much more. This shit bugs me and has for _at least_ as long as I’ve been alive. This is not paradise—we’ve got a lot to do here on earth. Like, our vehicles still pollute, even if we get electric cars and displace the pollution. And that’s just cars. What about electricity? What about air conditioning and heat? We are very fortunate to be alive now, and there’s a lot left to do. Meanwhile, people think the obvious thing to do is fight amongst ourselves. It’s maddening.
